Undisputed Lightweight Bout between Devin “the Dream” Haney Vs. Vasiliy Lomachenko

Here we go fight fans we are in for a great fight May 20th. I never thought I would see the former pound for pound King Loma make his way back to the top and have a chance to become the Undisputed King of the lightweight division. And what a fight this is for the young undisputed champ Devin Haney to validate and prove that he is the man. This fight is really for the boxing purist it will definitely be a highly tactical masterclass. It is age vs youth and also the bigger man vs the smaller man. Devin Haney is coming off two convincing wins over George Kambosos to become the lightweight King. Haney won both of this fights in Kambosos’ homeland in Melbourne, Australia. He was masterful with the use of his jab and keeping Kambosos out of range. The 24 year old Haney feels it is his time and he is trying to press his claim as the best in Boxing. The Dream has been in the shadow of the likes of Ryan Garcia, Gervontae Davis, and even Lomachenko. A win for Devin Haney would propel his career to new heights that would make him a mega star. Now lets talk about the 3 division world champ and pound for pound #1 Vasilliy Lomachenko. 3 years ago, Loma was on his way to becoming the lightweight king as he was going into his fight with Teofimo Lopez. Loma ended up being upset by Lopez and looked like a shell of himself at the MGM that night. The Monday after the fight he underwent shoulder surgery and it became public that all camp he had serious bruises on his left rotator cuff. As a southpaw Loma’s left hand is his strongest weapon but Loma did not use this as an excuse but a lot of analyst wondered if this was why he looked so lackluster against Lopez. But NOW Loma is on a revenge tour and is trying to reclaim his throne. In his last 3 fights he is 3-0 with 2 uniamous decisons over Richard Commey/Jermanie Ortiz and a TKO over Masayoshi Nakatani. A lot of people think Loma has lost a step and is past his prime but he says he’s ready for Haney. He’s got all he can handle in Devin THE DREAM Haney. Haney is 5’9 with 71in reach and I promise you he will be using every bit of this height/reach advantage over Loma. This means he’s gonna be using his best punch that piston like jab to keep Loma off of him. But Loma is one of the best at using angles and slipping inside and getting his shots off then exiting before his opponent can retaliate. With that being said let’s get into the tale of the tape.

Immediately while looking on paper it appears that Haney is the obvious favorite. Better record, height advantage, reach, and youth as well. Loma in my opinion has one advantage and that’s experience. He is one the greatest amateur boxers with over 395 fights. This southpaw is as experienced as it gets and if anyone can derail the hype of Devin Haney it’s Loma. With that being said I’m gonna explain what I think both fighters keys to victory are.

Vasilliy Lomachenko

  • Attack the body really to slow the feet down of Haney
  • Counter Haney’s jab
  • He has got to apply pressure and make sure their fighting his fight.

Devin Haney

  • NO LAZY JABS NONE
  • Land the right hand to keep Loma off of him
  • Stay away from the ropes at all cost

Finals thoughts: I love everything about this fight. It’s happening at the right time, especially with Tank and Garcia fighting this weekend! Hopefully there will be huge clash between the winners of these two fights. I really think this fight here is being overlooked and under hyped. As far as who I think has the edge I really just have a hard time going with one or the other. But if I had to bet I’d say Haney beats Loma on points probably split decision. He was so good against Kambosos in his last two fights, where as Loma just looks like age is starting to catch up with. SO IM GOING WITH HANEY! Let me know y ’all’s thoughts thanks for tuning in !
